Impregnation

Vacuum-pressure impregnation extends the life of wood from about 5 up to 50 years.

What is impregnation?

Impregnation is the most suitable solution, ecologically and economically. Trees are the longest-living beings on earth; impregnation reduces the consumption of wood and extends the life of the wood in use. Impregnation is the process of soaking chemical preservatives into the wood with different methods. It keeps bacteria, woodworm, termites and other pests from damaging the wood and makes its life ten times longer.

How durable is it?

Impregnated wood lasts longer than concrete, iron and plastic. The treatment keeps moisture out, protects against fungi and keeps harmful insects away. Treated wood needs no maintenance, and metal fittings do not cause corrosion. It has no odour and is completely safe.

Where is it used?

Impregnated wood can be used in pergolas and gazebos, timber-frame houses, garden furniture, roof timber, sapling supports, vineyard stakes, park and playground equipment, pool surrounds and walkways and many other places. Untreated wood lasts about 5 years; impregnation extends this up to 50 years. It is long-lasting, environmentally friendly and harmless to health.

Vacuum-pressure impregnation

The stages of impregnation

  1. 01

    Loading

The wood to be treated is loaded into the cylinder.

  2. 02

    Initial vacuum

The initial vacuum removes air and moisture from the wood cells.

  3. 03

    Flooding

While under vacuum, the preservative is transferred into the treatment cylinder.

  4. 04

    Pressure

Pressure drives the preservative through the whole sapwood.

  5. 05

    Final vacuum

The final vacuum draws off the excess preservative and pumps it back into the storage tanks.

  6. 06

    Finished

The wood is fully protected by the preservative.
